Background

    • Interim adoption of the position of ,Director Supply Chain Europe'
    • Global Player (US) with production sites in three European countries integrates German company own production sites in four European countries and own headquarters.
    • Modified organisation structures (matrix vs. central) and the clash of different corporate cultures (German vs. Anglo American)
    • Integration "in the minds and hearts" does not take place in spite of elaborate communication measures
    • Different ERP systems in the area of SCM

      Task

      • Establishment of a European Central Division SCM in Germany at a new location
      • Construction of an adequate purchasing controlling system
      • Synchronisation of the European ERP systems
      • Reduction of current assets and realising the savings targets that were set by the American headquarters
      • Accompaniment of the area through the financial crisis

      Result

      • Implementation of the new central unit by recruitment, redeployment and relocation within 6 months (employees with 5 nationalities)
      • Repatriation of the matrix organisation to a central area of supply chain management (SCM) Europe after 3 months with a geographically decentralised start
      • Introduction of performance KPI's within 8 weeks
      • Start of SAP implementations in two European countries
      • Reduction of European current assets by 5%
      • Adequate quantitative renegotiation of existing purchasing contracts as a consequence of the financial crisis in 2008/2009
      • Temporal compliance within the European Management of the „40 million saving program"
